The infiltration of popular internet culture is reflected in the new additions to the latest version of the Chambers English Dictionary.
The inclusion of words such as defriend, tweet and paywall were an indication of the influence of the world wide web, and social networking, on how people communicate these days, said Chambers, making note that “geek chic” had more clout and that Facebook has some 500 million users.
Other internet terms to make the new edition include widget, webisodes and augmented reality.
